September 2024

I know it’s been ages….but decided it’s about time I got back to updating my blog! I had a slight hiccup in March when I managed to twist my ankle when out walking …on the first day of a trip to Lisbon….and fractured my femur, ended up there in the magnificent CUF hospital for ten days having a whole new hip…..All mending well I’m glad to say and no hindrance to painting.

July and August spent in West Cork on the Beara peninsula, completing a few new canvases which I am particularly pleased with. At the moment it’s preparation time again for Art Source in the RDS Dublin which takes place in November from the 14th - 17th.

I am showing figurative, landscape ,still life and visage (faces) range. Look forward to seeing you there so you can see the full scope of what’s on offer , instagram and websites don’t do any of them justice . I’ll give more details on instagram nearer the time.

Home gallery in Dublin available to view my art . Call in to get advice on size , grouping etc. House visits also possible where I can bring a selection for you to see in situ, maybe culmination from an initial visit with me to highlight what you like . remember all art is in limited amounts each year and I will only display what I am 100% happy with…drop me a message on the contact page and I will get back to you very quickly.

2024 February

Been a while since I last posted! I am working away on topping up each category of art: landscape, figurative, still life and faces. Each year brings a new trend in popularity and I love painting all the different subjects. Each genre of art work cohesively with each other so landscapes blend with figurative while visage/faces work brilliantly with still life.

Grouping small ones to make up a footprint of a large 100cm is also popular , they can be split at a later date to fit another smaller space ……I explain options when you view in home gallery or in-situ in your home.

Want any suggestions for your home ? Please use the contact section at the top of my website to send me a message, I aim to reply quickly! Make an appointment to view art in my home gallery and then you can view “in the flesh”…..thumb print image on instagram or my website does no justice to colour and scale…

My canvases range from 20cm up to 100cm +

I look forward to welcoming you…….

November catch up

Art Source in Dublin is now done and dusted and I’m delighted to say it went well!…Sales included: Still Life in large canvases , landscape and figurative in medium and small …….it changes every year that’s what makes it interesting and confirms for me painting figurative, faces/visage , landscape and still life are a good mixture. They also blend together as there is a universal colour palette as a common denominator.

Mixing sizes works well too …I will do a feature on that in the near future; meanwhile you are all welcome to visit my home gallery, see what’s on offer and if needed we can organise a try out in your home. Never feel rushed or pressured…the important thing is to match a painting with a purchaser that will give pleasure for years to come. it was particularly gratifying this year to meet up with old customers from a show in 2015, and have them look for another piece of art for a new home redecoration. See for yourself … to organise details for a visit go to the contact section in the menu at the top of my website.

Look forward to meeting you…….

PS; I have special selection of small canvases, ideal for an original present , gift wrapped and with a set of art cards…..what’s not to love!

October Art Source RDS…..

I am taking part in Art source in the RDS Dublin in November, from open evening Thursday 9th November up to and including Sunday 12th.

Last few weeks have been busy here in home gallery with visits, sales , organising canvases for framing etc.

I produce a limited amount of art every year..i paint constantly but only display what i am 100% happy with.

My art will never be better value than it is at the moment. Art materials and framing have increased hugely over the last few months but I am absorbing the increase for now…………..but not for long! if you have been considering purchasing don’t delay…..i am aware that any purchase is a commitment but I aim to produce work that will stand the test of time and provenance. I hope that you can pick a landscape, or figurative work of a special person or place that resonates with you and still seems fresh in years to come.

I look forward to meeting and chatting with you ..old and new customers in November and if you need any further info just use the contact section in the heading on my welcome page.

PS; i will be offering a new selection of 20cm x 20cm canvases with a set of art cards , gift wrapped…always popular for a gift 🎁 or just to treat yourself!

August / September 2023 Dublin

Heading back to Dublin shortly with new work ready to view from 4th September.

Always a good time if you are searching for art to see the full stock on offer…..click contact on welcome page and send your enquiry.

Remember I can do a house visit with chosen artwork for you to view in your own home or arrange a time to suit to visit my home gallery.

If you are looking for a unique piece of art for your home to enjoy for years to come you won’t be disappointed. I produce a select limited amount of landscapes, still life and figurative each year…as the ad says when they are gone they’re gone!

In answer to whether I do commissions the answer is no…..I feel I am second guessing the interpretation of what the client requires and spontaneity is out the window. I compose so many of my paintings in my head, particularly in west Cork driving through the Healy pass and imagining all the shades of green and how to mix them; the way the coarse grass grows and the colours involved ; the organic mix of colours in the hedgerows and the way the mist falls over the mountains and blurs the landscape. I aim to reproduce that as the best I can. The easiest effects are often the hardest along with knowing when the painting is finished.

Composing figures and faces I apply the same principle of using only the essential marks to create the impression of movement or facial features.

Less is more and I want to leave space for the viewer to imprint their memories on the subject chosen.

My main aim is hoping that the new owner of the canvas will love it as much as I enjoyed painting it…then my job is done!

July 2023 west cork

Back in the studio in Cork, running between biblical rain storms and sunny gardening. I love working in the studio in all weathers. Here I have space to work , particularly on large landscapes and view everything in comfort. Painting is not work for me as I love it…….I like to experiment and try out different techniques and ideas with no restrictions about producing a finished piece of work.

Trends from instagram in home decor and art and the general economy all influence the market place. One thing I have learned over the years is not to get too confident about a really good year or on the other extreme a slow year….in other words it all balances out ……All I know is to keep challenging myself and aim to produce the best art I can……i ask myself…’ Would I hang this on my wall’?….I’ve learnt to mix it up a bit and experiment….If I am not inspired it wont work! I also not afraid to scrap those canvases which I’m not 100% happy with. Waiting for influence doesn’t always work.. turn up and have a go and see what emerges, often surprising results come from experiment. We all have days when nothing works but then its often matched by a day that everything flows……

Thankyou to everyone who follows me on instagram , do let me know what other elements you would like to see on instagram or my website.

Don’t forget to e mail from the contact heading on the welcome page on this website or DM me from my instagram Account.

If you have an office, hotel, board room or shop and you would like to purchase art to display publicly in your business, contact me for competitive rates.

All best

March 2023

Working away on new canvases at the moment ..an earlier trip to Cork produced a 105cm x 105cm landscape which I’m pleased with…I am my own harshest critic but ‘if it’s worth doing it’s worth doing well’…..,

I have new landscapes in all sizes from 20cm to 105cm, still life , figurative etc etc and a couple of interesting experiments !…always love to challenge myself…..

Again I reiterate I work and market my art from home and delighted to welcome you in to view, buy or just visit so you know where I am next time you are looking for something for a new project or as a gift for a special occasion.

I’ve been working a Home Gallery for a few years and I am delighted how it’s working out..I love chatting and meeting you all and I think visitors enjoy engaging about my inspiration, technique etc…I always say colour reproduction and scale are impossible to visualise on a website or Instagram ..be assured it’s a relaxed no pressure outing with easy parking , what’s not to love!

If you would like any further info on a painting or request a video I would be delighted to help out…I welcome all enquiries..nothing is too much trouble..for now check out my Instagram page for any latest news and I look forward to welcoming you to my Dublin Home Gallery All best Ruthie

What works for me……..October 2022

Busy month catching up with clients calling in to view art in Dublin after my summer working in my studio in Cork.. I thought I would share a few of my work techniques and what works for me. I’m quick to add that these are just suggestions and ideas, not a recipe for everyone else but just suits me!

My studio in Cork has plenty of space to spread out and work on large pieces……In Dublin I work on a small kitchen island , I always stand when working not sure why but maybe going back and forth to view and get materials, …One thing I have to emphasise is you don’t need space , just do it! I have a deep drawer with all my art materials to hand and put out on a counter behind me and then packed away when finished ….done!

I used to teach art for many years and what I found was not starting with rules and restrictions , just getting on with it and getting confidence in producing something that surprises you that you are proud of no matter how simple drives you to experiment and try out different methods and techniques…You cannot absorb instructions about the craft of painting if you have not witnessed for yourself how to mix paint, use a palette knife, brushes and anything else that creates ‘marks’ on paper and canvas…and realise rules are limited… experiment and see what works for you.…

It’s very intimidating to think all art is successful all the time…what you see of my art is an edited selection of what I am totally happy with….plenty get discarded..It’s important to edit and also not get consumed by an unsuccessful day ,turn up, have a go, experiment ,be happy to try new ideas/techniques …we learn more from mistakes than success!!…

Please send me any messages about what you’d like to hear/see more of….

November is Art Source time in the RDS Dublin…..11th Friday until 13th Sunday. Opening evening open to all on Thursday 10th….All art for sale,…Lots of new works exhibited for the first time…look forward to catching up with new and old customers and fellow exhibitors. The year goes fast!

Easter 2022

It’s been a while since contacting with you on my blog! Sorry.

Next week 21st April ‘ Incognito ‘ kicks off again . Supplying nursing hours for families with children requiring special needs. It is a wonderful charity which has won awards for the simplicity of producing postcard art all at €65 . Secret is you don’t know who the artist is whether famous or not! Go to www.jackandjill.ie/www.incognito.ie

I am painting away and quite busy which is great, I have a good few new works which can be seen at my home gallery in Dublin. To keep everything fresh and new I don’t put a lot up on my website. If you are searching for a size/subject matter just e mail via contact form in this website and I will get back to you by return.

I am experimenting with new techniques etc which is very important, ….I deliberately try a subject or technique which will probably be scrapped but if you only paint what you are comfortable with nothing progresses..successes often develop from ‘mistakes’.

Im coming out of a spell of shingles ..(wouldn’t wish etc) the amount of ‘viruses’ are heightened at the moment but hey I can still paint! It was good to return to my studio in Cork as I felt ‘stuck for inspo in Dublin. A change of scene can often trigger a good run of inspiration and I was on a roll!!

I’m working on a series of 50cm x 50cm ‘Visage ‘ love doing these,… increased interest in ‘faces’ at the moment, …but at least there is enquiries and sales across all the genres.

if you are undecided what size to choose I can help with suggesting different combinations from small to large. Dublin based? I can bring a selection to see in situ in your own home . No pressure!

Sending all support and wishes to everyone in Ukraine. Sincerely hope there is some positive news for all very soon.
